Overview

What happened in NEET PG 2023

On 5 January 2023 NBEMS announced that NEET PG 2023 would be held on 5 March 2023. Applications opened on 7 January; because of a technical problem sending one-time passwords, the form was reopened from 8 January. The bulletin required internship to be completed by 31 March 2023.

That cut-off was extended twice. On 13 January 2023 it moved to 30 June 2023, after a Ministry of Health and Family Welfare email of the same date; on 7 February it moved again, to 11 August 2023, and registration reopened from 9 to 12 February 2023 for candidates finishing internship in that period.

The exam was held on 5 March 2023 with 200 questions, as in 2021 and 2022. NBEMS declared scores and ranks on 14 March 2023 and said that subject experts had reviewed every question and found none technically incorrect or ambiguous. The merit list for All India 50% quota seats followed on 16 June 2023.

On 20 September 2023, following a Ministry letter of the same date, NBEMS reduced the qualifying percentile to zero across all categories, and stated that ranks were unchanged.

What 2023 shows

What NEET PG 2023 shows about the exam process

  1. A zero-percentile cut-off still leaves a ranking

Reducing the qualifying percentile to zero widened who was eligible for counselling. NBEMS stated that the ranks declared in March were unchanged, and qualifying does not by itself mean a seat.

  2. Eligibility dates can change more than once

The internship cut-off moved twice in under a month in 2023, each time with a short window to apply. Keep checking NBEMS's notices between applying and the exam.
