AIPGMEE 2015, AIPGMEE 2016 and NEET PG 2017: Exam Pattern & Paper Status

The postgraduate medical entrance for the 2015 and 2016 sessions was held as AIPGMEE, and for the 2017 session as NEET PG. All three were multi-day computer-based tests reported at 300 questions. We have not found the National Board of Examinations' own records for these years, so everything here rests on news reports from the time.

Overview

From AIPGMEE to NEET PG

For the 2015 and 2016 admission sessions, the national entrance exam for MD, MS and PG Diploma courses was held as AIPGMEE (All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination), run by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) as a computer-based test spread over several days in December. For the 2017 session, the exam held in December 2016 was called NEET PG. It was again spread over several days and again reported at 300 questions.

Reports for AIPGMEE 2016 and NEET PG 2017 say there was no negative marking. That changed with NEET PG 2018, which reports describe as a single-day exam with a one-mark deduction for each wrong answer.

We have not found NBE's information bulletins or result notices for these three years: NBEMS's current notice board starts in December 2019. Every fact on this page therefore comes from news reports and is labelled Reported. Where those reports are silent we say Unverified rather than fill the gap. We also do not explain why the exam's name changed, because we have not found a dependable source for that.

Labels used on this page: Official = an NBE/NBEMS document; Reported = a news report; Unverified = not confirmed in either. Eligibility, marking and preparation guidance are on the NEET PG previous year papers page.

"Unverified" means the report we found does not state it and we have not found an NBE document that does.

2015 session

AIPGMEE 2015 (1–6 December 2014)

CareerIndia reported in November 2014 that NBE would run AIPGMEE 2015 as a computer-based test from 1 to 6 December 2014, with 300 multiple choice questions, each with a single correct response.

Candidates were given 3 hours 45 minutes in all: a compulsory 15-minute tutorial on computer-based testing, and up to 3 hours 30 minutes to answer. The report does not mention negative marking, so we leave it as Unverified.

2016 session

AIPGMEE 2016 (2–8 December 2015)

CareerIndia reported in September 2015 that NBE had announced AIPGMEE 2016 for 2 to 8 December 2015, as an online test of 300 multiple choice questions with no negative marking.

The report does not give the duration of the test, and we have not found NBE's bulletin for this year, so the duration is Unverified.

2017 session

NEET PG 2017 (5–13 December 2016)

Medical Dialogues reported in December 2016 that NEET PG 2017 would be held between 5 and 13 December 2016 in online mode, with 300 questions in 3 hours 30 minutes and no negative marking. The same report mentions NBE in connection with providing results for state quota seats, but does not say who conducted the exam, so we leave the conducting body as Unverified.

Reports for the next exam differ on both points: NEET PG 2018 was reported as a single-day exam on 7 January 2018, rather than a window of several days, and with a one-mark deduction for each wrong answer.
